City Spotlight: Orlando, Fl

Anytime you think about visiting Orlando, Florida, you immediately think of Disneyland.  But what else is there to do in Orlando?  Turns out there’s quite a bit!  In fact, the more famous theme parks like Disneyland, Sea World and Universal Studios aren’t in the city itself, but they are nearby.  However, if you’re in Orlando for a relaxing getaway without the crowds, the city provides everything you’ll need without even stepping outside the city limits.

Aside from being less crowded, staying away from the big theme parks will save you some money as well.  For a pleasant afternoon without spending a dime, check out the art at the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens or the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art in Winter Park.  If you’re more interested in natural beauty, take a stroll inside A World of Orchids where you can enjoy the sights and smells of tropical plants and exotic flowers.  With species of flora from all over the world, this huge conservatory provides a relaxing and fascinating walk.

If you are interested in going to a theme park, there are a few to pick from besides the obvious.  Discovery Cove is a water park where you can have your picture taken riding dolphins.  Tickets for the park aren’t cheap, but they include admission as well as food and parking.  Or you can see the crocodiles, alligators and other reptiles at the alligator capital of the world, Gatorland.  There’s a zip-line ride, petting zoo and alligator breeding marsh along with animal shows including Gator Wrestling!

Of course, Orlando is also known for its golf courses.  If you’re looking to play a few rounds on the links, you’ll have plenty of beautiful links to choose from.  There are both public and private courses spread across the city.  Whether you’re a novice or an old pro, these golf clubs and resorts offer an enjoyable and relaxing way to spend your Orlando vacation.

Once you’re ready to settle down for dinner, you’ll be hard pressed to find a cuisine that isn’t represented in the area.  American, Peruvian, Asian, Latin and even Turkish restaurants can be found with delectable and unique dishes.  Afterwards, head out to downtown Orlando where you can enjoy the rest of the evening at a local café or pub.

While Orlando may sound like a tourist-heavy city, there are many options for staying away from the crowds.  As you can see, it’s all in where you look.  But you won’t have to look hard.  In Orlando, there’s always something to do just around the corner.  And you’re sure to find a great deal on a flight to Orlando on lowfares!
